Golf pros want the game to become an Olympic sport
posted in Golf News |Many of the game’s top professionals are lending their support to a campaign to have golf installed as an Olympic sport. Players including Monty and Tiger Woods have put their names behind the push to get golf into the 2016 Olympic Games.
Each of the 18 players to support the campaign has sent letters to the Olympic Committee members for each of their countries. The International Golf Federation is behind the campaign to get gold added to the Olympic roster.
Peter Dawson, the joint secretary for the International Golf Federation stated:It is imperative that the best players support our effort.
Golf faces some stiff competition to be added to the Olympics, as other sports being considered include squash, rugby sevens and karate.
The ICC may select two sports from the list of potentials, and are expected to decide in August this year.
